Hello,
I’m a 22 year old just moved back to Shetland following my degree. I’m looking for ways to stay active and would love to try climbing. I’ve never done it before, is there any way to get involved?
Thanks very much, Cat
#13504 |I am also trying to get into climbing in shetland. though work keeps getting in the way. maybe we might meet at one of the climbing get togethers. I will send you a message if i hear of any i am going along to.
rob#13505 |We used to have weekly indoor wall meets which were good for making contact but the Clickimin took down the wall, and outdoor climbing tends to be organised at short notice as it’s weather dependent, so it’s a matter of checking the forums (“Out and About” and “Club Meets & Trips”) regularly for anything coming or, if the forecast looks good on a day that you’re free, put up a post and see if anyone wants to join you.
#13506 |Thanks for the replies. rob – that would be great.
#13507 |Hi Cat and Rob,
please let folks know if you have gear (harness and shoes would be great) or if you need to borrow some stuff so that we can organise that.
During the Shetland Nature Festival early July there will be a climbing taster session. Places are limited so keep your eyes peeled; not sure when they become available.#13512 |Hi L’escargot, that would be great. I would need to borrow gear.
#13800 |i have a harness and shoes, but work is getting in the way of meeting up with anyone. i am having to do a lot of on call. this is not likely to get better this year as we are so short staffed. but i will keep an eye out if there is anything going on that i am available to attend.
#13807 |As L’scargot said – keep an eye on the forum, hopefuly we should get something fixed up soon, even if it’s just a short “come and try session”.
Cat – We have some club harnesses so you could can use one of them, no club shoes I’m afraid – but thin soled trainers would be ok.
Robroy – great, own gear!
