The last week in August was suggested at the AGM for a summer trip to the lakes. It would coincide with the Craven Pothole Club winch meet at Gaping Gill (third largest cave chamber in Britain). Any takers? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOrL65sJBaY

The winch meet at Gaping Gill provides excellent access to the main chamber and access usually requires a permit and membership of a caving club. I’ve accessed the main chamber and jumared back out before and that’s hard work. I’ve also turned up to a¬†winch meet and got winched in and then undertaken a through trip to exit out through Bar Pot. Route finding isn’t overly complex and will be plenty of people around to raise the alarm if you do get lost! Potentially, on the assumption that you wont have a chest ascender and decent set of gear, you can do Bar Pot to the Main Chamber and get winced out see here

The top of the pitch for Bar Pot is a bit of a squeeze, but definitely easier to abseil than ascend.
